USE OF THE OCTET COM PARA TOR

The Octet Comparator contains eight permanent color

standards. A test sample is inserted into the openings in

the top of the comparator. The sample can then be

compared to four color standards at once, and the value

read off the comparator. For optimum color comparison,

the comparator should be positioned between the

operator and a light source, so that the light enters

through the special light-diffusing screen in the back of

the comparator. Avoid viewing the comparator against

direct sunlight or an irregularly lighted background.

NOTE: The comparator supplied with this kit gives

both chlorine and bromine readings. The values for

chlorine appear above each color standard and the

values for bromine appear below each color standard. This chlorine/bromine

comparator may be read over two ranges. To read the sample color in the low

range (0.1-1.0 ppm chlorine or 0.2-2.2 ppm bromine) place the sample test

tube in the Axial Reader at the back of the Comparator, in a slot directly

behind the open windows. Tilt comparator toward natural light to illuminate

standards. To read the sample color in the high range (2.0-10.0 ppm chlorine

or 4.4-22.2 ppm bromine) place the test tube in the open windows at the top

of the Comparator. Move the test tube from one position to another until a

color match is made.
